Alex Bahar-Fuchs, PhD

Director of Neuropsychology

Alex is the Director of Neuropsychology at NewDays. Alex is an experienced clinical and research neuropsychologist specializing in the field of cognitive ageing with an emphasis on the design and delivery of cognition-oriented treatments such as cognitive rehabilitation. He trained at the University of Melbourne, Monash University and the Australian National University and provides clinical services to people with or at risk of dementia in his private clinic in Melbourne, Australia.

In 2013 he was awarded the prestigious Churchill Fellowship for his work on promoting cognitive interventions for older adults. He is Co-Chair of the Cognitive Interventions Working Group of the Australian Dementia Network, as part of which is leads national efforts to implement cognitive interventions for older adults in memory clinics. He was an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne between 2017-2023 and since 2023 is based in the School of Psychology at Deakin University in Melbourne. His research has been funded by the Australian NHMRC, Dementia Australia, the US Alzheimer’s Association, and the NIH, and informed Clinical Practice Guidelines for dementia in several countries including Australia, Canada, the UK and the US.
